Barry Leo Williams, 59, passed away suddenly May 26 at his residence in Carson City, Nevada. He also owned homes in South Lake Tahoe and Salinas and routinely traveled among them.
He was born in Rush City, Minnesota, on June 13, 1947 and grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, where he married his high school sweetheart, the former Jan Larson, in 1967. Barry worked at Clyde Ironworks as a machinist, and also graduated from Electronic Technical School. After intensive training in the Spanish language, he joined the U.S. Border Patrol in 1970 and moved to California. Barry was initially stationed in El Centro and was later assigned to Salinas where he worked for many years.
He retired from the Border Patrol in 1997 and pursued other interests, including real estate, woodworking, and antiques. Barry and Jan were part owners of an antique shop in Carmel Valley for many years. Barry loved having barbeques with his family and friends. He really loved playing with his grandchildren. Family and friends were so very important to him. Other interests included two lovable cats, watching hockey, biking and hiking. All will miss his wry smile and sense of humor. Besides his wife, Jan, Barry is survived by his son, Jay B. Williams of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Tricia (Matt) Maldonado of Salinas; his mother, Eleanor Williams (widow of Lloyd Leo Williams) of Las Vegas; brother, Lloyd E. (Rosemary) Williams of Las Vegas; sister, Cheryl (William) Finney of Santa Monica; sister-in-law, Patricia Larson of Duluth, MN; grandchildren, Jenna and Trevor Maldonado and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts and cousins.
