Robert Angulo, 88, of Salinas, passed away at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital on August 3, 2012. Robert is the patriarch of the Angulo family and will be most remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, and "Gramps." Robert met and married his wife of 65 years, Louise Angulo, in 1947. He has 5 children, 10 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and numerous great grandchildren. Robert's family was his pride and joy. He could be found supporting his grandchildren in the stands of our local schools, throwing family holiday parties, and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed. Robert was born on July 13, 1924 in El Centro, CA. He attended Salinas High School briefly before volunteering to serve in the United States Army Corps of Engineers at 16 years of age in 1940. He proceeded to serve in the European Theater and specifically built barges for the landing at Normandy. Following the war, Robert worked very hard to build a good life for his family. His supervisors and peers have commended him for being a dedicated employee and never missing a day of work if he could help it. He had long careers at Potter and Bissett and later North Salinas High School, where he retired in 1988. Robert was also an active member of our community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Angela's Angels at Madonna Del Sasso Church in Salinas. He also was an avid bowler and supporter of our local libraries. He is known for having read every large print book in our library network. In addition, he was a devoted sports fan, supporting the San Francisco 49ers and Giants. Finally, Robert was a friend to all and always made those around him smile. Those close to him remember him as a funny, sweet, and strong man. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Tiburcio Angulo and Serafina Espino, his daughter, Shirley Knappe, his brother, Cepriano Anguelo, and his sister, Angie Barrera. Robert is survived by his wife, Louise Angulo, his children, Bobby (Mary) Angulo, Mike (Pam) Angulo, David (Yolanda) Angulo, and Shelley (Jeff) Dickinson, and his son-in-law, John Knappe. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901. Rosary will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Dr., Salinas, CA 93906. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 10, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Madonna del Sasso Church. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
